Updated Message Center coming next week (hopefully)

Just to give an update on the Message Center. I've heard they tried to push some things live yesterday and had some issues and it took some time to roll back. Hopefully, they can resolve it and get it out next week. I've included a screen shot so you can get a first look at the folders and new behaviors. Best wishes! Note: I will show this link to the manager of the project so she can read your comments.

It's good to see that the site is taking some user considerations into account.

However, over-all, it's fantastic that you are keeping the new style.

Is the Hotlist ones I've hotlisted or the ones who hotlisted me, or both?

I don't really care whether they're VIPs or not, so that folder doesn't seem to have much use except to make those who dished out the extra cash for the status feel good about themselves.

I hope all the others who aren't in my network or match my cupid settings will be filtered into the Others folder.

Not sure about the Pending Conversations, since I can imagine that it reminds the member of all the emails that went out without getting any replies, especially for the men who send out emails by the 100s and are lucky if they get one reply that's not an auto reply. I really doubt if that filter will be used in an intelligent way to remind the idiots who they sent an email out to a few months ago but never got a reply.

Eventually, I'd like to have the ability to Show/Hide the conversations in certain labels, i.e. if I make a label called Past Meets and mark it Hide, I'd like for all the conversations in that label be hidden from view unless if I specifically select that label to view the content. Kind of like the way the filter system behaves in another web-based email system. And, I'd like to be able to use the checkbox to apply the same label to multiple conversations.

Also I'd like be able to scroll through the messages in the desktop version of mobile browsers and see faster responses. Right now, it takes longer for the current message center to load in the desktop version compared to the old one and the scrollbar doesn't work. I don't like the limitations and the interface of the mobile version so I don't use it. I don't like how clicking on a username in the desktop version directs me to the profile in the mobile format either. I use Android on my tablet.

And yes Andrew, you need to keep a close eye on all the updates to make sure they don't affect other parts of the site before they're rolled out.

Any possibility of making it more ipad adaptable. When clicking on a profile name to open a profile in an email it take me to the mobile site. There I cannot see a full profile. This does not happen any other place on the site. It works well in chatrooms, blogs, or for a search. Also, if there are repeated messages back and forth I can't scroll down enough to see the full text of the most recent message.

Another question. I realize you are trying to show both the email receive and the reply, but is it necessary to show the auto-reply?

Maybe I should have waited to the new and improved version...but was wondering.

It good that explanation about those button being added to those might need help to understand the function.

Other then that, I can't share much feedback if I can't test use on it what is being added or make improved.

Thank you for showing to us.

The screen shot looks....interesting. I don't know if I can completely visualize how this is going to work.

I do like the option of being able to specify which messages you see upon opening up the message center. That kind of customization is appealing to users.

Is the message pane going to be so wordy when that screen comes up? I know from a UI standpoint, that's quite a wall of text and it might be a detriment. It took me a couple of passes before I saw the information about how to configure the message center the way that *I* wanted to.

It's be great id there were less words and more white space. Having that link for more information is good, but most people are not going to click through, they'll flounder around the message center trying to get it to work through trial and error.

I'll be interested to use this new layout.

I would like to have a feature where we can delete a single message, without deleting an entire thread, after we've read the entire message, (not simply the first and last few words that show up in the preview window).

I don't really care how much you "update" the new message centre. I'd still prefer the old one back as it worked much better and was quicker to load, or at least give the members the option to use the old message centre or the new one, let them choose for themselves.
Also i'd like to get to more messages without having to keep clicking "get more conversations" which seems a really stupid and frustratingly long winded way of getting to older messages.
Again i would like to see subject lines returned to each individual email, and not just a long string of conversation.
Also please state the exact date an email or "conversation" as you now call them was sent. The current, "sent days or months ago" is far to vague.
I also really hope you will remove messages from the message centre if they are known to be sent from fake or scam profiles. In the old message centre if a profile was removed from the site for fraud or abuse then the message would read..... "message deleted as this member has been removed for fraud or abuse".
This is how it should be in the new message centre. I'm still getting messages from fakes and scammers trying to get me to sign up to other websites, in most cases the profiles are being removed but the messages still remain to read in the message centre. This is really not acceptable at all.
Please remove the content of these messages as it was in the old message centre.
As you say they tried to make changes yesterday, i could not get my message centre to load at all. I could not get access to my emails on here. The site always seems to do these things at UK peak time, and as usual UK members are treated like 2nd class citizens here. Not happy at all about it!
Really wonder why i pay for a premium membership on this site at times!

I honestly don't know and can't really tell from the screenshot - it is all in the functionality to me. Looking forward to something improved from this currently "improved" message center. One point not to forget is tablet users. Please make it fuctional - 100% functional - to those who use tablets. For example, when I currently read a long email on my tablet, it requires scrolling to read the entire thing and my tablet does not allow for scrolling in the message pane. I think it is not user error, but the way the center is designed.

Andrew, I have to say I agree with this member. I KNOW you are trying to fix this new MC, I really do, but I know many of us really do prefer the 'old' one and if we had the chance we would be back at that one in a heartbeat. You still have no 'subject lines' with this, although the folders are a great idea. I loved my folders in the old MC. I DID like that if I wanted to save it I could just click 'save copy' and it was done. I didn't have to have all this stuff saved regardless. If I wanted to delete a part of the convo I just removed it before responding or not.
.
MOST DEFINITELY the messages from those removed for scamming or abuse...those messages reflected it and rightfully so!! I do NOT like that I can still see the messages from the fake/abuser after they have been removed. It is just more clutter the same as saving things automatically like it or not all or nothing thing.
.
It was so much easier to find older messages and all with the old MC as opposed to this new one. It just looks so much like that F-B thing, and I don't like that one either..lol I SOOOO wish I had the option to just go back to the old MC. I do know you are trying and doing your best though. I feel for you really I do.

Hello Andrew, I have been thinking the same as many others here for quite a while about the new message center. I really prefer the old message center. I can not go through page by page make easy deletions that people have been removed for abuse or their profile has been turned off. My messages are being buried and have to painstakingly to go through the messages. I use to be able to preview the profile before responding to that individual that wrote to me. Now it is so confusing I cannot do that then you got to go back to the message center to look for that particular message it may take me a while to get that message again. I have tried to go through the messages but after a while I just quit because I need to do something else then typing conversation all day. I know the site needs to change and update their software. Sometime it is good for the user but to other users it might not be so good. For the user that were used to the old message center was more easily accessible feature and be able to organize their messages in a timely efficient manner. For this new message center is set for the newer generation of users and a close duplicate of other sites on the web. Maybe they can comprehend it more easilty than the older user that was use to the old message center. I would prefer to have a option between the old message center and the new one as well. Thank you for trying to make the new messager work for us and we do value your efforts.

This is a great comment because it exposes one of the great flaws in this programming environment. All too often ( I speak from personal experience in another environment ) "features" are added simply because they are features. These appear because of a general failure to ask the question, "Is this what the users want?" The feature is added because the management think that it shows that the program has FEATURES ... so unused bloat slowly kills what used to be a useful working environment.

I know I'm probably speaking to the choir here - but most great programs/environments result - in my opinion - from there being a devils advocate, asking really critical questions, and people listening to them. I'm sure you've seen the original version of the cartoon that I'll attach but it still ( a couple of days over 50 years after it was drawn! ) makes a great point:

Thanks Andrew for the update. I am hoping they can finally get this one fixed to be more user friendly. Not sure why we couldn't just keep the old one.. It was working just fine. I really don't like seeing my own email showing up. What happened too the filters.. That one seemed too disappear. Hugs V

And in its own way, my comment reflects another weakness - the error of assuming that what one user wants is what all users want ... at your end you should be able to make a better estimate of what your target audience need from the web-site analytics and server logs. Those of us who speak up and comment here are definitely not the majority of users on this site.

Mine gave me back all the old ones from last year that I deleted. And all the ones I'd 'saved' have gone.

Also, messages I've sent, months ago, are now in my inbox???

And, it no longer automatically filters out the ones that don't meet my preferences.....

Annnnnnddddd, When I click a message from the side to show in the main box, it jumps to the bottom of my screen and I have to scroll back up to read it. Every sodding time!!!

Please, Please....
Remove those messages from Credit Card Fraudsters who've bought a Gold membership with a stolen card and then spammed the site with messages containing details of other (rival) sites and their IDs upon them.
If, using your management status, you look at my MC, all messages on the first screen are these.
- and I can still see the details of their Scams.
Under the old MC, these would be shown as "Member removed for Abuse" or similar.
Considering that AdultFriendFinder used to be able to remove these but no longer does, I wonder what the legal situation now is...
Accessory after the fact?

I'd just like to be able to actually SEE my email, read it, and respond to it when I am in Firefox. How difficult can that be????? I've waited almost 5 months to do so!

Now my "Recently Viewed" List has disappeared from the blogs!!!!!

Why do they continue to screw things up that were working? Why pick on the bloggers?

This is completely frustrating.

I'm in the camp of those who wonder why you're fixing stuff that didn't really need fixed and messing around with design issues you don't seem to know much about instead of just going through the site support blog's old posts and fixing the outstanding issues that have been going on for far too long in the face of denial from support staff.

I also don't understand why you roll out these things to the entire site, only to have to roll them back immediately. Why not trial it with a small percentage first?

Walk this way.

I've been almost 5 days without a message center... the format is there but I can't open my emails or send them from there... none of the buttons work. Now you tell me.... how in the hell can I hook up if the mail doesn't work???? That is the only thing that interests me on this site... I rarely use any of the other porn features you use to lure male idiots into paying your outrageous fees.

Why in the world did you change the MS in the first place?... it used to be the only thing on this site that actually worked consistently for years! Everything else has been changed, patched, badly repaired and always, but always grossly and embarassingly inconsistent..... and you never LISTEN to the people who actually use it everyday.

Well maybe now that you are back... something more professional can be done... till then, CAN I PLEASE HAVE MY MAIL BACK?

Ps: You might take a look at the connecting forum format... it's the best I've seen on a dating site; visually clean and clear, easy to navigate, you can easily track responses and you can zip back to your 'history'... all very handy for dialog.

Btw you posted this 'info-mercial' on the 15th of March and now it's the 18th of April.... without one single comment or question being addressed.

Which I think is indicative of this sites extremely poor customer service history... especially when some people have paid a lot of money for this tacky ineffiency.
